Program Development: Drink Drive Resources

Practical Guidelines for Assessing the Effects of Drink Driving Interventions

This toolkit was commissioned by IARD and written by the SWOV Institute for Road Safety Research in the Netherlands. The toolkit provides general guidelines, dos and don’ts, and advice and considerations for performing evaluation studies. The guidelines target road safety professionals in low- and middle-income countries who do not have a scientific or statistical background. The main aim is to give the audience a taste of evaluation research, allowing them, for example, to make decisions about the set-up of a study, and to understand the scope and limitations of study results.

Drink Drive Training Program Workbook

As a part of the Global Actions on Harmful Drinking Drink Driving Initiative, IARD undertook a program of action guided by the Good Practice Manual (GPM) on Drinking and Driving, which was developed under the auspices of the UN Road Safety Collaboration by the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP). IARD has developed a training workbook to apply the GPM in an effort to build capacity of road safety practitioners at the local level.

GRSP Road Safety Manual

The Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) has produced, as part of the UN Collaboration on Road Safety, an international good-practice manual that provides advice to road safety practitioners. It follows on from the recommendations made in the April 2004 World Report on Road Traffic Injury Prevention (issued jointly by the World Health Organization and the World Bank). The GRSP manual focuses on practical ways to develop and implement coordinated and integrated programs to reduce drinking and driving within a country. ICAP is a founding member of the GRSP.

UNECE – UNECA – IARD Regional Workshop Publication

UNECE, UNECA, and IARD jointly delivered workshops on UN Road Safety Conventions and Approaches to Preventing Drink Driving in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 12-13 November 2014, and 7-8 July 2015. The workshops featured briefings for government officials on the UN road safety legal instruments; addressed effective approaches to preventing drink driving; and reviewed progress on the implementation of the African Road Safety Action Plan. Importantly, the events also offered an opportunity for valuable dialogue among Member State representatives, non-governmental organizations (NGOs); and UN experts on these significant topics.
