IARD response to WHO Independent High-Level Commission’s report on Non-Communicable Diseases

Responding to the WHO Independent High-Level Commission’s report on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), Time to Deliver, President and CEO of the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking (IARD), Henry Ashworth said:

“We warmly welcome the recognition the Commission has given to the role that beer, wine and spirits producers can play in tackling the harmful use of alcohol. We are determined and committed to deliver positive change in this area and fully support WHO and UN efforts. We also back the Commission’s key recommendation that engagement with the private sector should be increased to help meet SDG targets and tackle NCDs, through the harnessing of private sector expertise, technology and innovation.

“Collaboration with the private sector thrives when there is a regulatory environment that promotes partnership and enables businesses to play their part in supporting sustainable growth, development and improved health. By developing robust partnerships amongst private and public sectors and civil society, we can promote a virtuous circle of growth and better health.”
